An Overview

Punjab has been one of the most prosperous state in India ever since Independence by way of green and white revolution, however, the achievement was washed over due to insufficient growth of the industry in Punjab. Initially, certain industrial segments started well but due to lack of sufficient and affordable technical manpower and absence of innovative upgradation in technologies the industries of the State lagged behind as compared to other States like Maharashtra, Karnataka & Andhra Pradesh.

To address this issue of Technical Manpower shortage and to usher into a new era of Industrial Development comparable to International Standards, the Punjab Government constituted Punjab Technical University (PTU) in 1997. The University was entrusted with the responsibility of developing the new generation of technical manpower that can spearhead the industrial development of the State Punjab Technical University has been formed to be the grooming ground for the future Engineers, Managers and Researchers.

As of today, PTU affiliates about 145 Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, Hotel Management and Architecture colleges in the State that are approved by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE).

UGC Nomenclature

All courses offered by PTU are as per the nomenclature and guidelines of University Grants Commission that makes these courses universally acceptable.
